Android Mobile from Google - is this the Future?

by Patrick Martin on November 7, 2007

So Google announced their new mobile venture on November 5th,  Android, which will deliver complete software for mobile devices and allow new applications to be created by developers.

The great thing about Android is that it is open source so it allows developers to create new and exciting applications using all kinds of innovative ideas.  Mobile phones will become less about the handsets and more about the applications that are being developed for them.

The Open Handset Alliance has been created, which is agroup of over 30 technology and mobile companies which have come together to create Android.  Members of this group include names such as Google, T-Mobile, Ebay and China Mobile.

The middle of 2008 is the expected date when Android handsets and applications are rolled out but developers can get a preview of the Software Development kit via a download from the Open Handset Alliance website from November 12th.

More For the Individual

Android isn’t built for companies it’s for individuals, you don’t even need to own a flashy mobile phone to be able to use the platform, its built for everyone.  Whilst at the moment many people are priced out of owning the most talked about phone on the market, the iphone, everyone will be able to use the technology that Android is bringing to mobile phones, even on cheaper Android ready handsets.

With all the speculation that Google was going to bring out a “Gphone” they have gone one step further and undoubtedly their mission for the future is that everyone will be using the Android platform on their phones not just a nice phone that they have made.  The phone will be secondary to the applications and Android platform.  Everyone will be using Google on their mobile phones but the handset is of less importance.

We actually don’t really know what the Android set up will look like, it’s all guess work at the moment but we may found out some more with the Development kit released on November 12th.  People are already talking about what developments are to come on the Android Mobile Forum.

What do you think about this? is it going to revolutionize the mobile world? do you really want to have access to or be accessed by the internet all the time?
