Have you ever thought that you were a bit disappointed with the lack of main stream coverage of the T-Mobile G1 Phone? I have to say that I thought there would be more advertising spend to announce the launch.
Maybe that was the plan by Google and T-Mobile because they have announced that over two days next week they will be buying one billion ad impressions over AOL’s Platform A ad network.
AOL’s Platform A network reaches 90% of the online population in the US so you can see that Google and T-Mobile want almost blanket coverage online. This makes sense as the target G1 market are bound to be web users and probably quite internet savvy.
It’s a little bit early to talk of this as a Christmas campaign, but it could be a way for Google and T-Mobile to dip their toe ino the water and test what the response is. Once they see the response maybe then they will launch a larger campaign in time for Christmas.
It’s reported that the campaign will cost T-Mobile $1.5 million which isn’t a large amount for such blanket coverage. Why didn’t the two companies go with Google’s DoubleClick? Who know’s, maybe they thought that AOL’s platform had more reach online, maybe it was a decision by T-Mobile from prior experience.
Whatever the reasons, prepare to be bombarded next week.
